Vishnu Sahastranam Sloka 1

ॐ विश्वं विष्णुर्वषट्‍कारो भूतभव्यभवत्प्रभुः ।
भूतकृद्भूतभृद्भावो भूतात्मा भूतभावनः ॥।


विश्वं:- जो विश्व रूप हैं

विष्णु :- जो सर्वव्यापक हैं

वषटकार : जो यज्ञ पुरुष हैं , जिनके उद्देश्य से यज्ञ में वषट किया जाता है

भूतभव्यभवत्प्रभु:- जो भूत भविष्य और वर्तमान तीनों कालों के स्वामी हैं

भूतकृत:- जो भूतों (प्राणियों ) की रचना करतें हैं

भूतभृत:- जो भूतों (प्राणियों ) को धारण कर उनका पालन करतें हैं

भाव:- जो भाव स्वरुप हैं

भूतात्मा:- जो सब भूतों की (प्राणियों की) आत्मा हैं

भूतभावन:- जो प्राणियों (भूतों) को भावित करतें हैं

Vishvam :- Universe or Cause of Universe or One who is full in all respects.
Vishnu:- One, who permeates everything, who is inside every sentient and non-sentient being.
Vashatkara:- Who is receiver of everything that is offered as in Puja or Yagya.
Bhuta-bhavya-bhavat-prabhu: Who is the Lord (Prabhu) of the Past (Bhooita), the Future (Bhavya) and the Present (Bhavat).
Bhuta-Krit:- The creator of all beings.
Bhuta-bhrt:- Who protects and maintains everything .
Bhavah:- Pure Existence in all the sentient organisms and the insentient objects, indicated by the term Bhaavah.
Bhutatma:- Atma or soul of all beings.
Bhuta-Bhavanah:- One who nourishes and nurtures all beings to grow.

अप्रमेयो हृषीकेश: पद्मनाभोsमरप्रभु: |
विश्वकर्म मनुस्त्वष्टा स्थविष्ठ: स्थविरो ध्रुव: ||


अप्रमेय :-जो प्रत्यक्ष व अनुमानादि के विषय नहीं हैं

हृषीकेशः :-जो समस्त इन्द्रियों को अपने आधीन रखतें हैं

पद्मनाभः :-जिनकी नाभि से कमल उत्पन्न हुआ है जिनकी नाभि में कमल विराजमान है ( यह सृष्टि की उत्पत्ति का द्योतक है )

अमर प्रभु :-जो देवताओं के स्वामी हैं

विश्वकर्मा :-जो विश्व का निर्माण कार्य करतें हैं

मनु :-जिनका मनन किया जाता है , जैसे मंत्र / जो मंत्र रूप में प्रकट होतें हैं व मनन किये जातें हैं

त्वष्टा :-जो संहार के समय सांसारिक पदार्थों को को क्षीण व विलीन कर देते हैं

स्थविष्ठः :-जो अत्यंत स्थूल हैं

स्थविरो ध्रुवः :-जो पुरातन तथा ध्रुव हैं


Aprameya :- Who is not explained, defined or understandable by any of the accepted means of knowledge.
Hrishikesha :- Controller of Sense organs, The Lord of the senses.
Padmanabh :- From whose naval springs the lotus. Whose naval is seat of lotus of creation.
Amarprabhuh :- The lord of Devas, who holds lordship over immortals.
Vishwakarma :- The creator of whole universe and world of objects.
Manu :- Who has manifested as Mantras, who is pondered by Mantras.
Twashta :- Who breaks down the world into subtler elements at the time of dissolution of creation.
Sthavishth :- Who is supremely gross.
Sthavirodhruvah :- Who is Ancient and steadfast.
