The thousand names of Lord Vishnu are called "Vishnu Sahastranaam" in Sanskrit. The recitation of these holy names with great devotion exterminate many evil effects of past ill deeds and give rise to great qualities in a human and environment. The famous warrior and well known enlightened preceptor in hinduism, Bhishm Pitamah imparted holy knowledge and glories of Vishnu Sahastranaam to Yudhishthar. And the narration between them had been compiled in 149th chapter of Anushasan Parva of Mahabharat.
